Instagram Story Fonts: What font does Instagram use for Stories and Reels?
Searching for the Instagram Story fonts names:
In February 2018, Instagram released the "Type" mode for Instagram Stories, allowing users to share their thoughts using different text styles and backgrounds creatively. These new Instagram Stories fonts allowed users and creators to use the app natively to create stories that aligned better with their personal or branded style preferred. Then, in 2020, the holidays came early when on August 3rd, Instagram released more options than before!
Thinking about what type I would use for myself, I wondered what the names of those Instagram story fonts were. I was able to figure it out with the help of the internet, WhatTheFont!, and the fantastic community that has commented on this post!
What is the default Instagram stories font?
The "Classic" font used in the Instagram Stories overlay text is San Francisco on iOS Apple devices and Roboto on Android phones. The other font used in the Instagram app is Freight Sans.
What is the Instagram stories font type used in stickers elements?
The Instagram Stories font type used in the different Instagram Story Stickers (like Product, Location, Mention, Hashtag, etc.) is Aveny T Regular.

2020 INSTAGRAM STORY FONTS UPDATES
On August 3rd, 2020, Instagram surprised users and creators with new fonts, some improvements to the OG Instagram Stories Fonts, and then in 2021, they introduced animations! Making stories much more engaging, right from the app. I couldn't find the exact font name for these. My gut tells me that they made an effort to create their own fonts? If you know the answer, please feel free to let me know in the comments! In the meantime, I decided to give them my own name and give you the most similar options I could find!
Comics
NEW INSTAGRAM STORY FONT
Like the Later team says, a kooky New Comic Sans inspired font. The closest fonts I could find to this IG story font are: TOMO Ziguret Regular by TOMO Fontsand Soliloquous Regular by Comicraft.
Influencer
NEW INSTAGRAM STORY FONT
This font I call "Influencer" because it feels modern, stylish, and delicate. The closest font I could find to this insta story font is: Winslow Book Regular Italic by Kimmy Design.
Modern 2.0
NEW INSTAGRAM STORY FONT
This Instagram Story Font I am calling 'Modern 2.0.' Another option similar to 'Influencer' that feels classic yet fashionable and stylish. The alternatives I found are TT Marxiana Antiqua by TypeType and Operetta 8 Regular by Synthview.
Simple
NEW INSTAGRAM STORY FONT
This one is just... BASIC! All jokes aside, a simple and versatile font that could align with many brand styles. The closest option I found that is similar to this Instagram font is Brutal Type Medium by Brownfox.
